NEW MASK
SEP.16.2006

Roberto Luongo unveiled his new mask during the second skate this morning after wearing a Team Canada version yesterday.

The new mask features the Vancouver skyline, a bear tearing through an old-school goalie's mask on the front, and the Lions' Gate Bridge on the back.

"I wanted to get something that represented Vancouver," said Luongo. "You can see the tall buildings and the mountains in the background, and at the same time there's a lot bears on the West Coast and I wanted to gets something that looked a bit intimidating."

In an homage to his roots, Luongo included a small panther's tail curling up the back.

"I think I've had the Pink Panther on my mask since I started in the league and I wanted to keep that tradition going, but I didn't want that on the front because I'm with a new team. But it's kind of like a memento reminding me of the time I spent there."
