Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo has been invited to attend Canada’s National Men’s Team orientation camp from August 24-27, in Calgary, Alberta. Luongo is among 46 players selected for the camp as candidates for upcoming international events in the 2009-10 season: the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and 2010 IIHF World Championship.

The camp roster includes five goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 25 forwards. The list of players includes 40 players with senior international experience, either at the Olympics, IIHF World Championship or World Cup of Hockey/Canada Cup, while 36 of the 46 players played for either the National Junior Team or National Men’s Under-18 Team.

This past season, Luongo, 30, recorded 33 wins a 2.34 GAA and a .920 save percentage in 54 regular season games. Named Captain of the Vancouver Canucks prior to the 2008.09 season, Luongo also established a single season career-high nine shutouts and was recognized for his strong season by being named the inaugural winner of the Scotiabank NHL Fan Fav Award at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada.
