Canucks Sports & Entertainment replaces Orca Bay

Tuesday, 29.01.2008 / 12:03 PM / News
Vancouver BC –  The Aquilini Investment Group (AIG) today announced a name change for the company responsible for operating the Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place. Effective today, Canucks Sports & Entertainment replaces Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment.

“We recognize that the Canucks are one of the best known brands in British Columbia, and coupled with our world class venue, we’re certain our fans and business partners will strongly identify with Canucks Sports & Entertainment,” said Canucks President and CEO, Chris Zimmerman. “We believe Canucks Sports & Entertainment, clearly distinguishes us as a business dedicated to delivering world class entertainment and sporting events to our fans and partners throughout the province.”

Today’s announcement of Canucks Sports & Entertainment will be marked by the club record 200th consecutive sell-out at General Motors Place tonight. Canucks fans and supporters have helped sell-out General Motors Place dating back to November 14, 2002.

Owned and operated by the Aquilini Investment Group, Canucks Sports & Entertainment is committed to providing a premium experience through the hockey club, state of the art venue and charitable and community initiatives.

Since August 1995, the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Club and General Motors Place had been operated by Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment. In November 2004, the Aquilini Investment Group, led by brothers, Francesco, Roberto and Paolo Aquilini purchased 50 percent of the hockey club and General Motors Place from then owner John E. McCaw Jr. Two years later, in November, 2006, the Aquilini’s purchased the remaining 50 percent of both the Canucks and General Motors Place.

The Aquilini Investment Group is a diversified family business founded more than 50 years ago by Mr. Luigi Aquilini. The Vancouver-based company owns and manages a national real estate portfolio that includes commercial properties, office buildings, hotels, golf courses, and cranberry and blueberry farms, as well as the development and sale of multi-family residences and condominiums.

Committed to their community, the Aquilini Investment Group was the primary sponsor of the Italian Gardens at Hastings Park, and helped conserve the Fraser Valley’s Blaney Bog, which has been named as the Aquilini Land Conservatory. Through the Vancouver Canucks, the company and Aquilini family also support the Canucks for Kids Fund and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
