Name: Robby Fabbri
ISS Ranking: 8
Weight: 170 lbs
In a nutshell
Fabbri is fresh off being named the OHL Playoffs MVP after netting 28 points (13-15-28) in 16 post-season games with the Guelph Storm during their run to the Memorial Cup. Finished second on Guelph during the regular season with 87 points (45-42-87) in just 58 games. His favourite player growing up was Peter Forsberg.
Been there, done that
Won the 2014 OHL Championship with the Guelph Storm, while also being named the OHL Playoffs MVP. Won gold for Canada at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial, posting one assist in five games.
Zach Parise, Jordan Eberele, Ryan Callahan, and Jeff Skinner are some of the names being thrown out there. I see more of a mix between Jets prospects Nic Petan and Montreal forward Brendan Gallagher. Fabbri has that same skillset that Petan does, but plays with a bit more of an edge. He won’t end up as fearless as Gallagher, but like the former Vancouver Giants star, he plays a lot bigger than he actually is.
Word on the street
“Fabbri has very good speed and uses it to attack well. He plays hard and goes into the areas where it may be challenging but rewarding! He’s a player who takes the initiative to be a factor in winning.” – TSN’s Craig Button (Jan. 23, 2014)
Good fit in Vancouver?
Fabbri is a real exciting player to watch, but who knows if that will translate to the pro game. There could be big upside here, but not sure the Canucks want to spend the sixth overall pick to find out.
