Just keep swimming.
The Vancouver Canucks didn't dress a full squad in their season finale Saturday night in Edmonton and for two and a half periods, they held their own. The Oilers then scored four goals in two minutes and 30 seconds late in the third period to take a 6-2 lead, en route to a 7-2 win at Rexall Place.
Derek Roy opened the scoring on the power play with less than three minutes to play in the first period and Vancouver held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Edmonton evened the game at 1-1 early in the second and Roberto Luongo and Devan Dubnyk shut the door for the rest of the frame.
In the third the teams exchanged goals a minute and 20 seconds apart and it was an exciting 2-2 game before the wheels fell off and the car flew into the ditch and was destroyed. Five goals against in the final seven minutes propelled the Oilers to a meaningless win in the finale for both teams.
Luongo finished with 30 saves on the night.
The Canucks face the loser of the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks in the opening round of the 2013 NHL Playoffs.
