Canucks tame Preds, win second straight game
Dale Weise picked a perfect time to score his first goal of the season.
Weise pounced on a rebound off a Maxim Lapierre shot and scored the lone goal in a 1-0 Vancouver Canucks win over the Nashville Predators Friday night at Bridgestone Arena.
The goal, the fifth of Weise's career and third against the Predators, is his first ever game-winner. Scored at the 9:14 mark of the third period, Weise broke a scoreless tie in a game that looked destined for a shootout from puck drop.
Roberto Luongo stood tall at the other end of the ice in his first start of Vancouver's current four-game road trip. He made 23 saves, including 13 in the first period with the Canucks badly outplayed and badly outshot 13-3. Coach Vigneault credited Luongo with holding down the fort long enough for the tired Canucks, minus Kevin Bieksa, to find their legs.
