While there may be a shortage of scheduled games in some arenas this fall, there’s no shortage of activity and excitement as one branch of the Vancouver Canucks family prepares to drop the puck on a brand-new season.
For over half a century, the Canucks Alumni have been entertaining hockey fans throughout British Columbia, Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. While the current Canucks continue their preparations for the next NHL season, it doesn’t mean their older relatives are cooling their heels, sitting on the bench.
Not at all! The Alumni have confirmed a draft schedule starting with a return to the Royal City for the 2012 edition of “The Hydrant Cup” on November 30th as the Alumni face off against the New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service. It’s a “family-friendly” game, part of an all-day series of local events that will help raise money for local charities. In 2010, this one-day campaign raised almost $20,000 as close to 3,000 people wrapped up the day by jamming into Queen’s Park Arena to watch the Alumni defend their Hydrant Cup title.
Other Alumni dates already confirmed for 2012-13 include a visit to the Sunshine Coast as part of the Gibsons Minor Hockey fund-raiser on January 19th; the “Nurses 4Kids” game in Nanaimo on March 9th; and a trip to the South Cariboo on March 23rd for a game benefitting local youngsters with special needs in Williams Lake.
Check back here for further announcements to be confirmed in the very near future.
