Ready to Scrabble

Since I last wrote, a lot has happened here in the Canuck land. We've been on a roll on the ice, as you all know, but I'd like to share a little bit of what's been happening away from the rink.

First up: All-Star break. It was great to have a few days off from hockey after such a crazy schedule. Emily and I joined the Romes, Ehrhoffs, and Torres' on a trip to Phoenix, AZ. It was the perfect place to relax - golf for the guys, shopping for the girls, nice dinners, and a bit of pool-side relaxing.

After All-Star break, it was right back into the swing of things with the Canucks Siblings trip. My brother, Darnell, made the trip out from Calgary where he goes to school and plays hockey for Mount Royal. It was so much fun to have my little bro along for the plane rides and hanging out between games. It was great to see how all of the siblings got along with each other as well as all of us do.

Last Thursday was the annual Dice and Ice Benefit for the Canucks for Kids Fund. I’d have to say, Manny Malhotra did a great job of hosting the live auction and giving the crowed a peek into what all of us are really like. I got made fun of for being a hopeless romantic, and hey, what can I say?

The best part of the night was looking at all of the different items for auction. Some of my teammates were pretty creative - my favorite was Hank and Danny coaching a practice - too bad it was only for youth teams, because I would have tried to buy it for some extra ice-time with them. I could learn a lot from those two!

We are currently in Nashville, and after we play the Predators we will be back home for a six game, two-week homestand. It’s always great playing at home so I’m really looking forward to being back in Vancouver for a big stretch.

Also coming up in the next two weeks will be the much-anticipated Scrabble Challenge against the guys from PassIttoBulis. I’ve been trying to practice here and there, but to be honest, I’m most looking forward to raising money for the Canucks for Kids Fund. T-shirts will be available soon, so keep your eyes peeled. I’ll make sure to give another update after the event to make sure you guys don’t just get the Pass It To Bulis point of view with their witty banter. Wish me luck!
