An unforgettable year

Hi everyone.

Just wanted to touch base one more time before summer begins.

As I sit here on this gorgeous day in Vancouver one week since Game 7, I have come to realize - although the sting is still there - what a great season we just had. How well we are represented at the NHL awards is just a small reflection of that, it was an outstanding year in many aspects.

For me personally, it was a year of incredible experiences. I have had the pleasure of being part of a team that supported one another unconditionally, stood by each other, fought for each other, and battled so hard for each other that we ultimately came within one win of the Stanley cup. It was a great year.

We spent the night after game 7 at the arena with our families and needless to say it was an emotional time for all of us. The further you go, the harder it is for your season to end.

It was extremely disappointing to see the smoke billowing from the downtown core as we left the rink. I know that the riots do not represent the fans and city of Vancouver. We have had such an incredible ride and our fans have been with us through every hit, goal, save, and “Go Canucks Go” chants. I am embarrassed that the riots are what most people around the world will remember about our 2010-2011 season. But I know that true hockey fans, and most importantly OUR fans, will remember this as one of the best seasons in Canucks history.

As we head into this offseason, wedding planning begins in earnest for me. Emily has been very patient over the past few months and I know I owe her my undivided attention as our wedding day quickly approaches. In between wedding plans, we will be enjoying all that this beautiful city has to offer. In the past week we have been busy paddle boarding, hiking the Grouse Grind, and running on the seawall. Thank you Vancouver for being so kind to us.

And thank you to the fans that have stuck with us all season long. I cannot express how much it means to have people stand by our side through eight pre-season games, 82 regular season games, and 25 playoff games.

And I know I speak for the entire team when I say that we can’t wait to do it again next year.
